The City of Novato lies in the most northern point of Marin County and is home to approximately 50,000 residents, making it the second largest city in the county. It has a thriving business community and an attractive downtown district, in addition to a major shopping center.

Novato is said to be among the best weather areas in the county, with dry warm summers and relatively mild winter temperatures, making it ideal for a variety of community special events held throughout the year, including Movies in the Park, the Novato Festival of Art, Wine and Music, the annual Fourth of July Parade, a Farmers’ Market, and Nostalgia Days in downtown Novato.

With thousands of acres of open space, Novato is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Lush rolling hills provide a magical backdrop for hiking, biking and enjoying the region's natural beauty. The views from the 1,558 foot high Mt. Burdell are spectacular. Novato also boasts two public golf courses and numerous parks, including a 16,000-square foot skate park. Another draw to the area is Stafford Lake Park, a 139-acre expanse that provides activities such as fishing, hiking, biking or day camping. Bird watchers and wildlife observers are drawn to Scottsdale Marsh, Deer Island Preserve and Pacheco Pond Wildlife Area.

Additional attractions to Novato include the Pacheco Ranch Winery, the oldest land grant property in California, where visitors can see how grapes are grown and taste fine California wines. At the Marin French Cheese Company visitors can sample award-winning cheeses and enjoy a picnic with views of the scenic surrounding meadow and pond.
